Entrepreneur | Author | Management Consultant

‍Roger Huang (黄若) is an entrepreneur, author, and management consultant whose life has spanned one of the most profound periods of transformation in modern history - from rural China to global business, and from the agricultural age through the industrial era into the information age.

‍Born and raised in rural China, he witnessed first-hand the profound transformation of a nation emerging from poverty and isolation into one of the world's largest economies. His career later took him across China and Australia, where he built businesses, advised organisations, and worked at the intersection of entrepreneurship, strategy, and cross-border commerce.

‍Throughout this journey, Roger has remained fascinated by a question that extends beyond business: how do individuals preserve their identity while the world around them changes beyond recognition? That question lies at the heart of both his professional work and his writing.

His forthcoming English memoir, Long Crossing, reflects on a life shaped by history, migration, leadership, family, and continual reinvention. His earlier Chinese publications explored management, entrepreneurship, and business practice, while his current writing increasingly turns toward memory, history, and the human search for meaning.

‍Today, Roger divides his time between writing, consulting, and sharing insights drawn from a lifetime of experience across cultures, industries, and generations.‍ ‍

ROOTS

Growing Up in rural China during a period of profound social and economic transformation laid the foundation for Roger’s lifelong curiosity about history, resilience, and human potential.

Crossing the Ocean

At thirty, Roger chose certainty's opposite. He left behind a secure career and years of academic pursuit, crossed the ocean with only US$72 in his pocket, and began life again from the starting line. It was not simply a change of country, but a return to zero—an act of faith in the possibilities that lie beyond familiarity.

Corporate Leadership

A career in management and leadership provided opportunities to work with organisations through periods of rapid growth, organisational change, and strategic transformation.

Entrepreneurship

Building businesses across China and Australia brought first-hand experience of innovation, cross-border commerce, and the challenges of navigating different cultures and markets.

Author & Thinker

Writing became a way to reflect on the intersection of history, migration, leadership, and personal identity. What began as recording experiences gradually evolved into a search for broader meaning.

Today

Roger continues to write, consult, and speak, drawing on decades of experience across business, history, and culture while exploring the ideas that connect people across generations and continents.

*Themes*

East Meets West

Roger's life has been shaped by living within both. He explores how different traditions, values, and ways of thinking can challenge one another while also creating opportunities for deeper understanding.

History & Memory: History is more than a record of the past - it is a force that continues to shape individual lives and collective identity. Roger's writing explores how ordinary people experience extraordinary periods of change, and how memory preserves stories that official history often overlooks.

Migration & Identity: Crossing cultures is more than changing countries. It is an ongoing journey of adapting, belonging, and rediscovering one's identity while building a new life. Roger's experiences in China and Australia provide a perspective that bridges both Eastern and Western worlds.

Leadership & Entrepreneurship: Business is ultimately about people. Through decades of leadership, entrepreneurship, and cross-border commerce, Roger has witnessed how vision, resilience, and trust determine the success of organisations far more than strategy alone.

Heritage & Legacy: Success is measured not only by professional achievement, but by the values passed from one generation to the next. Family, education, and responsibility remain central themes throughout Roger's writing and reflections.

Meaning & Reflection: As life progresses, questions often become more important than answers. Roger's work increasingly explores purpose, faith, resilience, and what gives a life lasting meaning beyond career and achievement.

"We cannot choose the era into which we are born, but we can choose how we respond to it."

— Roger Huang

He believes that every generation is shaped by the forces of its time. His life has spanned one of the most remarkable periods of transformation in modern history: from the agricultural age, through the industrial era, and into the information age. Yet the questions that define a meaningful life have remained remarkably constant:

Who are we?

What do we value?

What do we leave behind?

Whether writing, building businesses, or working across cultures, he believes that history shapes our beginning, but our choices shape our legacy.
